Hide your address on Google Business Profile and show a service area

Updated October 11, 2026

10 minutes, then up to 48 hours to show

If customers never come to your address, open Edit profile, then Location, turn off Show business address to customers, and add up to 20 service areas by city or postal code in the same sitting. Do both together: a profile with its address hidden and no service area gets a local area chosen by Google.

Before you start

  • Owner or manager access to the profile. Both roles can edit the address and service area.
  • Whether customers come to you. If they also visit a staffed location with permanent signage during your stated hours, you are a hybrid business: keep the address and add a service area.
  • The areas you serve, written down. Up to 20 cities, postal codes or other areas, ideally within about 2 hours of driving from where the business is based.

Decide whether the address should show

Hide the address only if customers never come to it; keep it if they also visit you there.

  1. Hide it if you visit or deliver to customers and do not serve them at your address. Google says a service-area business should hide its address, including one run from a home.
  2. Keep it if you also serve customers there. Google calls this a hybrid business: it shows the address and sets a service area, and the location should be staffed and able to receive customers during its stated hours.
  3. Without permanent signage at the address, the location is not eligible as a storefront. Google says to list it as a service-area business.

Hide the address

One switch under Location hides the street address from customers.

  1. Go to your Business Profile and select Edit profile, then Location.
  2. Next to Business location, select Edit.
  3. Turn off Show business address to customers.
  4. Select Save.

Set the service areas

Add the areas you serve right after hiding the address, or Google picks a local area for you.

  1. In the same Location section, next to Service area, select Edit.
  2. Select a suggested area or type a city, postal code or other area. You can add up to 20.
  3. Under Selected service areas, remove any area you do not serve, including any Google filled in for you.
  4. Select Save.

A service area cannot be a radius around the business. A profile that still has an old radius cannot edit it; set the area by city or postal code instead.

Check it worked

Google says approved service area edits may take up to 48 hours to show, and other profile changes usually take about 10 minutes but can take up to 30 days in some cases.

Then search your business name on Google Maps from a browser that is not signed in to the profile's account. The listing should show no street address. Google says it decides how best to display an address from your business information and other sources, so if a street address still shows after the wait, open Location again and confirm the switch saved off.

Switching back to a storefront later

Turn Show business address to customers back on first. Google only lets a storefront business with its address on the profile remove all of its service areas.

One profile for the whole area

A service-area business gets one profile for the whole area it serves. Separate profiles are allowed only for separate locations, each with its own service area and its own staff. Splitting one business into several profiles by town breaks the rule.

If you also run Local Services Ads

For a Local Services Ads account created from the Business Profile, the address and location type come from the profile, and changes made on the profile show in the ads account automatically. Google copies only verified details, so a pending edit does not reach the ads until Google approves it.
