Local SEO

Local SEO is the practice of getting your business to appear in geographically focused searches like plumber near me or roofer in Mesa. It is built on different signals than traditional SEO and is by far the highest-ROI organic channel for service businesses.

The four pillars of local SEO

A complete and active Google Business Profile, with regular posts, photos, and Q&A. Consistent NAP (name, address, phone) across all citations. Reviews on Google, regularly and recently. Localized content on your site that mentions the city and service together.

Get those four right and you will appear in the local map pack within 90 days in most secondary markets. Primary markets like Phoenix and Denver take longer but follow the same playbook.

How local SEO differs from traditional SEO

Traditional SEO rewards backlinks and content depth. Local SEO rewards proximity to the searcher, completeness of your Google Business Profile, and review quantity and recency. A site with weak backlinks can outrank a stronger site for local searches if it nails the local signals.

The flip side is that local rankings are volatile and proximity-bound. You will rank in the neighborhoods nearest your address and fade in neighborhoods 15 miles out. Multi-location businesses need a dedicated profile per location.
