Check enhanced conversions
Google Ads shows Check enhanced conversions when an alert may need attention. The status names no cause, so hover over it, select Go to diagnostics and read the alerts from the top. Accept the customer data terms first if they are not accepted, then fix the send the alert names. Recheck after a full day of new conversions.
At a glance
- Where it shows
- The tracking status in the conversions table under Goals, Summary, shown beside the conversion action.
- What stops
- No ad stops. Enhanced conversions may be adding less data than the account expects, so matching and bidding can be weaker than planned.
- How serious
- No policy risk. The cost is weaker conversion data and decisions made on it.
- How long
- The diagnostics read the past day of data, or the past seven days when a day holds too little.
What it means
Check enhanced conversions is a status word, not a diagnosis. Google shows it as the conversion action's tracking status when there seems to be an issue with enhanced conversions for that action, and hovering over it offers Go to diagnostics. The diagnostics report is where the cause is written. The status can sit beside a working conversion, so it is not proof that recording has stopped.
Google's page says the data quality tier correlates with the alerts. A tier of Needs attention means the setup is active but something needs fixing, and the alert names the fix.
What actually triggers it
The customer data terms were never accepted
The diagnostics show Enhanced conversions not in use until the terms are accepted. Nothing sent with hashed customer data counts before that, whatever the tag does.
Address fields missing from the send
Google flags a setup where country, first name, last name or postal code is missing. Sending an email still allows matching when the address is incomplete, but the alert stays until all four fields are sent.
Order IDs that do not match between the tag and the API
When the tag and the Ads API send different order IDs for one conversion, Google cannot pair them. The alert reads Tag and Ads API order IDs don't match.
API data arriving more than a day late
Google's page says Ads API data sent more than 24 hours after the conversion raises an alert. A send that waits for a nightly batch can cross that line for every conversion it holds.
Too few conversions for any alert to show
Google hides the alerts when fewer than 20 conversions arrived in the past 7 days. A low-volume action can therefore show the status with an empty alert list, and the only way forward is a manual test of the tag and the send.
Fix it in this order
- Hover over the status in Goals > Summary and select Go to diagnostics. The alerts list is the only place the cause is written.
- If the first alert is Enhanced conversions not in use, open Goals > Settings, select Customer data terms, review the terms, accept them and select Save.
- Fix the alert named in the report, one at a time: complete the address fields, hash the data the way the alert describes, or send the order ID with every conversion.
- Leave the diagnostics for a full day so new data replaces the old. Then open them again and read the alerts once more.
The diagnostics look at the past day of data, or the past seven days when a day holds too little. An alert you have already fixed can still show for a day, so read the timestamps before deciding nothing changed.
Often confused with
Enhanced conversions not in use
The terms are not accepted. Accepting them clears the status without any change to the site.
Recording enhanced conversions
The good reading. No alert is open, and the status shows that conversions are being recorded.
Needs attention
A data quality tier, not a status. The conversion is recording, but the setup has a gap the alert names.
