ReferenceTracking error

Check permissions

Check permissions means an upload went to an account that does not own the conversion, or is not linked to the manager account used. Through a manager account, the receiving account must be linked to it. Without one, your own account must own the conversion actions. If the manager account created the action, upload with the manager account. Fix the link or the ownership, then upload again.

At a glance

Where it shows
The result of an offline conversion upload, shown as Check permissions.
What stops
The upload is refused for that account, so its conversions are not recorded there.
How serious
Moderate. Conversions from the refused upload do not reach the account that should record them.

What it means

An offline conversion upload has to come from an account allowed to send to the conversion action. The page sets two rules: the receiving account must be linked to the manager account, and without a manager account, your own account must own the conversions rather than the manager account.

The error is a mismatch between the account that uploads and the account that owns the action. The fix is to check the ownership and the link, not the file.

What actually triggers it

  1. An upload through a manager account to an account that is not linked to it

The upload targets an account that is not linked to the manager account. The page says to confirm the link before you upload.

  2. An upload without a manager account to an action the manager account owns

Without a manager account, the page wants your own account to own the conversions. When the manager account owns the action, the upload hits this error.

Fix it in this order

  1. Check which setup applies: an upload through a manager account, or an upload without one.
  2. With a manager account, confirm that the account receiving the conversions is linked to it. Link the account if it is not.
  3. Without a manager account, confirm that your account, not the manager account, owns the conversion actions you are uploading.
  4. If the manager account created the conversion action, upload with the manager account, as the page says.
  5. Upload again, and check that the upload is accepted before you rely on it.
