Waiting to receive enhanced conversion data

Google Ads says Waiting to receive enhanced conversion data when enhanced conversions is enabled but no data has arrived. The status can take up to 48 hours after data is received to change. Inside that window, wait. After it, make one real conversion, confirm the tag fired and the Ads API send ran with it, then recheck the setup against Google's API steps.

At a glance

Where it shows
The status message at the top of the enhanced conversions diagnostics report, under Goals, Summary, then the conversion action and Diagnostics.
What stops
No ad stops. Nothing extra is matched to ad clicks until data arrives.
How serious
No policy risk. Until data arrives, the enhanced part of the conversion adds nothing.
How long
Up to 48 hours for the status to update after data is received, according to Google.

What it means

The status means enhanced conversions is enabled and Google has not received the data yet. It does not mean the send is broken. A new setup needs time, and the first real conversion is what moves the status.

Google's 48-hour window is the test. Inside it, nothing needs fixing. After it, Google says to double check the setup against its instructions for enhanced conversions in the Google Ads API.

What actually triggers it

  1. A setup finished in the last two days

Google says the status can take up to 48 hours after receiving data to change, so a working setup checked on its first day still reads as waiting.

  2. The setting is on, but the sending code is not live

    Not on Google's help page

Switching enhanced conversions on in Google Ads sends nothing by itself. Until the code that sends the hashed data is deployed on the site or in the server, the report has nothing to receive.

  3. The send runs only on some pages

Google's page lists Ads API pings not sent in all situations when the tag fires as a cause of errors. A send tied to one page or one form leaves conversions from every other path with no data.

  4. A send that stopped after a site change

    Not on Google's help page

A redesign that removes the page or form the send hangs on leaves the setting on and the status waiting, with nothing reported as an error.

Fix it in this order

  1. Write down when the setup was finished. If it is less than 48 hours ago, wait. Google's page says the status can take that long.
  2. Make one real conversion yourself, through the live form, and check with Tag Assistant that the tag fired on the page where the conversion counts.
  3. Confirm the Ads API send ran for that same conversion and carried the order ID the tag sent, so the two can be paired.
  4. If the status is still waiting after 48 hours, recheck the setup against Google's instructions for enhanced conversions in the Google Ads API.

Give the status a full day after the first real conversion. The diagnostics read the past day of data, or the past seven days when there is less, so an early check can show the old wait.
