ReferenceTracking error
Enhanced conversions not in use
This alert means the customer data terms have not been accepted, and enhanced conversions cannot be turned on until they are. Open Settings from the Goals menu, select Customer data terms, review and accept them, then click Save. Enhanced conversions send hashed first-party customer data, so the terms are the step that unlocks the matching.
At a glance
- Where it shows
- As an alert in the Goals area of the account.
- What stops
- Enhanced conversions cannot run until the terms are accepted, so the matched customer data is not sent.
- How serious
- Moderate. Conversions that depend on the matched data are not sent until the terms are accepted.
What it means
Google's diagnostic says the customer data terms are required to enable enhanced conversions, and that they have not been accepted. Enhanced conversions send hashed first-party customer data, which Google matches to ad clicks in a privacy-safe way.
This is a settings step, not a tracking fault. Accepting the terms does not repair a broken tag. It allows the feature to be turned on.
What actually triggers it
Terms never accepted when the account was set up
The page gives no reason the terms were left unaccepted. The alert shows the current state, not the history, so check whether the person who set up the account accepted them.
A setting the API cannot show
Not on Google's help page
The setting is read-only through the API, and a false value is left out of the response. A check run through tools can miss it, so confirm on the screen.
Fix it in this order
- Open Settings from the Goals menu.
- Select Customer data terms.
- Review the terms, accept them, then click Save.
The page does not describe a waiting period after saving. Read the alert again once the change is saved.
