ReferenceBusiness Profile suspension

Ownership revoked

Google's page lists five reasons ownership may be revoked: no recent sign-in, the business confirming a manager is no longer authorized, unanswered emails, the profile being deleted, or the profile being created through another Google product that was suspended. Find which reason applies, then try to re-verify or request ownership through the owner-conflict article.

What it means

Ownership is the right to manage a Business Profile. Google's page lists five reasons ownership may be revoked, and none of them is about the content of the listing. Each is about access, contact, authorization or what happened to the profile itself.

What actually triggers it

  1. No sign-in for a long time

The owner has not signed in to the profile recently. This differs from the inactive owner case, which is about content removal after a warning.

  2. The business has revoked a representative

The business confirms that a representative, such as a firm managing the profile, is no longer authorized. Ownership can be revoked from that party.

  3. Emails that go unanswered

Google tries to reach the owner by email several times. If none is answered, ownership may be revoked.

  4. The profile was deleted or came from a suspended product

The owner, or another owner, deleted the profile, or the profile was created through another Google product that has since been suspended. Neither is fixed by editing the listing.

Fix it in this order

  1. Work out which of the five reasons applies, from Google's message.
  2. If the reason is no recent sign-in, sign in and respond to any Google email.
  3. If the business revoked a representative, confirm with the business owner who holds ownership now.
  4. Then try to re-verify the business, or, if another party now holds ownership, request it through the Resolve owner conflicts article the page links to.

Often confused with

  • Unauthorized profile access

Access revoked because another party is found to be the rightful owner. Ownership revoked covers the reasons a current owner can lose the profile, such as no recent sign-in or unanswered emails.
