ReferenceBusiness Profile suspension

Inactive owner

Google's page says a merchant who has not accessed the profile for a long period may lose access and have content removed, after adequate warning. The page gives no fix steps and does not say how the warning is delivered. Sign in to the profile from the owner account on a schedule, check that account's email for warnings, and respond before access is revoked.

At a glance

Where it shows
The owner account's email, and the profile's access settings.
What stops
Access for the owner account, and content on the profile once it is removed.
How serious
Access revoked and content removed after warning. The page does not say how long the warning lasts.

What it means

The page says merchants who do not access their profile for long periods may have access revoked and content removed, after adequate warning. The warning is the window to act in.

Google's page does not describe how the warning is sent or how long the window lasts, so the owner has to plan for both.

What actually triggers it

  1. A former owner's account that still holds the profile

The profile's owner account belongs to someone who has left, so nobody signs in to it. Google's page covers long periods without access.

  2. A warning that reaches a mailbox nobody reads

    Not on Google's help page

Google's page does not say how the warning is delivered. A warning that reaches a mailbox nobody reads gives no chance to act, and the first sign can be the content going.

Fix it in this order

  1. Find out which Google Account owns the profile and whether anyone still uses it.
  2. Sign in with that account and open the profile, so the profile shows active access.
  3. Check that account's mailbox for any warning from Google, including any sent in the last few months.
  4. If the account will no longer be used, plan a handover to a current owner or manager before the account is left to lapse.

Often confused with

  • Ownership revoked

Lists five reasons ownership can be revoked, one of them not signing in recently. Inactive owner is the page about access and content removed after a warning, so the warning is the window to act in.
