ReferenceBusiness Profile suspension
Service at a location you don't own
Google's guidelines say an ongoing service, class or meeting at a location that you don't own or have the authority to represent is not eligible for a Business Profile. Renting a hall or a room for sessions does not give you authority to list that room as your location. Check what authority you hold in writing. If you cannot show it, the profile should show only the place you control.
At a glance
- Where it shows
- The profile's address and the business it represents.
- What stops
- Google's page lists the case as ineligible and does not describe what happens to a profile already live.
- How serious
- Set by whether you have authority over the location, not by how the business runs.
What it means
The guideline covers the place where a service happens, not only the place where the business is registered. An ongoing class, service or meeting at a location that you don't own or represent is not eligible to be the profile's location.
Authority is the test. Written authority is the simplest way to answer it, although Google's page does not list what documents it accepts.
What actually triggers it
Classes in a rented hall
A fitness, music or language class held in a rented hall, a school room or a community center, with that room listed as the business's location.
Recurring meetings in someone else's space
A support group or a training session that meets in a room the business does not control, where the room's address is the one on the profile.
Fix it in this order
- List every place where the business runs an ongoing service, class or meeting.
- For each one, check whether you own it or have written authority to represent it.
- Where the authority exists, keep the location and keep the paper that shows it.
- Where it does not, remove that location from the profile, and keep only the office or site you control.
Often confused with
A property that is rented or for sale is ineligible in itself. This page is about a service run at a place the business does not control, which can be an otherwise ordinary building.
