ReferenceBusiness Profile suspension

Rental or for-sale properties

Google's guidelines exclude individual properties such as vacation homes, model homes and vacant apartments from Business Profile eligibility. A sales or leasing office for the same development can qualify, because it is a place where people do business. Decide whether the listing is the property or the office. Keep the office if it has staff and signage, and remove the property listing.

What it means

Google's guidelines list rental or for-sale properties as ineligible. The examples are vacation homes, model homes and vacant apartments. The test is whether the address is a business place, and a property that is rented out or for sale is not one.

A sales or leasing office is eligible for verification, and the page says so directly. The case that confuses people is a developer's sales office and the show home beside it, which can share one address.

What actually triggers it

  1. A vacation rental listed as a business

A holiday let or a vacation home listed under its own address. The page names vacation homes as ineligible.

  2. A model home or a vacant apartment

A show home at a new development, or a unit that is empty between tenants. Both appear on the page's list of ineligible properties.

Fix it in this order

  1. Decide whether the listing is the property itself or a staffed office that serves it.
  2. If it is a sales or leasing office with staff, keep the profile on the office, and check that its address and hours match the sign.
  3. If it is only the property, remove that profile, since the property is not eligible.

Often confused with

  • Service at a location you don't own

A class, service or meeting held at a place the business does not own or represent. This page is about the property itself being ineligible.
