ReferenceBusiness Profile suspension

Business description rejected

Google's description rules say the profile description may not contain links of any type, and may not focus on promotions, prices or sales, and may not carry content that is irrelevant or low quality. Remove every link, offer and any text unrelated to what the business does, then rewrite the description as plain factual sentences about the business and its services.

What stops
The edit that was rejected, until the text is changed to meet the rules.
How serious
Set by the review of the text. The page does not give a penalty for a single description.

What it means

The guidelines are short. The field is for useful information on the services and products offered. No links of any type are allowed, content has to have a clear association with the business, and a description should not focus on special promotions, prices and sales. Low-quality, irrelevant or distracting content, such as misspellings, gimmicky characters or gibberish, is not allowed either.

What actually triggers it

  1. A web address in the text

A bare domain, a shortened address or a link pasted in as text. The page bans links of any type, which covers a typed address as well as a clickable one.

  2. Text that has nothing to do with the business

Paragraphs copied from elsewhere, a list of unrelated services, or a passage about something else. The page says content must have a clear association with the business.

  3. Promotions, prices and sale offers

A seasonal discount, a price list or a sale announcement written into the description. The page says the description should not focus on special promotions, prices and sales.

  4. Gimmicky characters or misspellings

Decorative symbols, capital letters for emphasis or deliberate misspellings. The page gives misspellings, gimmicky character use and gibberish as examples of low-quality content.

Fix it in this order

  1. Remove every link from the description, including typed web addresses.
  2. Remove any sentence that is not about the business or what it does.
  3. Remove promotions, prices and sale offers, and any decorative characters.
  4. Rewrite what remains as plain sentences that say what the business does and who it serves.
  5. Save the description, then check the profile's status before the next edit.
