ReferenceGoogle Ads account suspension

Couldn't verify your identity or business operations

Google could not confirm who the advertiser is or how the business operates, usually because a name, country or license does not exactly match the documents. If the verification had a deadline, the account is paused until it passes. Match every name to the registration document and ID, add any license the industry needs, and resubmit carefully: attempts are limited.

At a glance

Where it shows
An email and a notification in the Google Ads account. Status sits under Admin, then Policy, then Account.
What stops
With a deadline, the whole account is paused until verification passes. Without one, some ads may be restricted.
How serious
Serious once a deadline passes, and Google says an advertiser it cannot verify after 3 attempts cannot appeal a suspension.
How long
Review takes up to 5 business days, and in rare cases up to 30 days. A deadline cannot be extended.

What it means

Advertiser verification asks the account to prove its identity and business. A failed task means Google could not verify the information given. It is not a suspension in itself, but Google's timelines page says the account is paused if it is not verified by the deadline, so an unresolved failure stops every ad just as a suspension would.

The message names the reason. Couldn't verify your identity or business operations is the broadest. Others include Info is inconsistent or doesn't match your Google Ads account, Issues with submitted documents and Not enough documentation about your identity and licensing. Each points to a specific mismatch, and the fix is to correct that mismatch, not to send the same files again.

What actually triggers it

  1. The organization name does not match the registration exactly

Google wants the name exactly as the registration document shows it, suffixes and punctuation included. A trading name, a missing suffix such as LLC or Inc., or a shortened name is enough to fail.

  2. A person's name that differs from the photo ID

For an individual, the name must match the government-issued photo ID exactly. The name shown in disclosures also has to match the Google Ads account name.

  3. The payments profile country differs from the documents

Google lists a payments profile in one country with a registration document or ID from another. If the countries cannot be reconciled, Google says to contact support to set up a payments profile in the right country.

  4. A regulated business without its license

Google names home services and healthcare among the industries where a missing local or state license fails verification. A registration document alone does not prove the license.

  5. Documents that are blurred, dark, screenshots or out of date

Google rejects screenshots, photocopies, digital IDs, zipped files and folder links. Proof of address such as a utility bill or bank statement is typically required to be issued within the last 90 days.

  6. Another business involved that was not documented

When a marketing company, domain owner or service provider is involved, or appears on the website, Google wants every party named and the relationship shown with an agreement, a letter on letterhead or an invoice.

Fix it in this order

  1. Open Admin, then Policy, then Account, and read the exact reason Google gave for the failed task.
  2. Put the registration document, the photo ID and the payments profile side by side, and make the names, address and country match exactly before touching the task again.
  3. Correct the organization name or the legal name in the task to the document's exact spelling, or update the payments profile address, whichever side is wrong.
  4. Add what the reason asks for: a license for a regulated industry, the back of an ID, a recent proof of address, or proof of relationships with other businesses involved in the account.
  5. Resubmit original photos or scans in PDF, JPG, JPEG or PNG, in color, legible, with all four corners and every page.
  6. Watch the deadline. It cannot be extended, and the account pauses if verification has not passed by then.

The status can take up to 5 business days to update after all tasks are complete. A paused account resumes once verification passes.

When to appeal

There is no appeal for a failed task itself: the route is to correct the mismatch and resubmit. Google says only a limited number of attempts is allowed, so each one should fix every reason listed, not just the first.

If the account is suspended, Google may require verification before an appeal can be submitted, and an advertiser who fails 3 attempts cannot appeal. Submitting false information or documents other than those requested is itself a suspension reason.

Often confused with

  • Failed payment verification

A billing check on the card during a billing suspension appeal, run through Google Payments. It asks for the payment method and an ID, not business registration.

  • Circumventing systems

False or fraudulent information in verification is listed under this policy, and it suspends the account outright. An honest mismatch is a failed task; invented details are a policy violation.
