It's been less than 48 hours since you linked Google Ads

Google says it can take 48 hours for Google Ads data to appear in Analytics after the accounts are linked. An empty report during that wait is expected. Confirm the link is in place from both products and that auto-tagging is on, then check again once 48 hours have passed. If the data is still missing, the fault is in the setup, not the wait.

At a glance

Where it shows
In Analytics, in the Google Ads campaigns report, the User acquisition report and the Advertising section, where linked data should appear.
What stops
Google Ads data does not show in Analytics yet.
How serious
Low during the wait. A link that was never made, or auto-tagging left off, keeps the data missing after it has passed.
How long
Up to 48 hours, according to Google's page.

What it means

Google's Analytics help says the Google Ads account and the Analytics property must be linked before Google Ads data can be seen in Analytics, and that the link can be checked from either product. It also says it can take 48 hours for Google Ads data to appear.

Google's clicks and sessions page adds a limit on the wait: data isn't backfilled. A date range that starts before the link shows a gap, and waiting does not fill it.

What actually triggers it

  1. The accounts were linked less than two days ago

The message is the normal state during the wait, and nothing needs to change yet.

  2. Auto-tagging is off in Google Ads

Auto-tagging is what imports Google Ads data into Analytics. With it off, the wait ends with no Google Ads data, and paid visits can show as organic, direct or (not set).

  3. The link was made but never checked from either side

    Not on Google's help page

The link can be checked from either product. An owner who made it in one product and never looked from the other cannot tell from the message whether it went through.

Fix it in this order

  1. Note the date the link was made. Google's page says data can take up to two days, so wait until that date has passed.
  2. Check that auto-tagging is enabled in the Google Ads account.
  3. Check the link from the Google Ads side and from the Analytics side, using each product's own link settings.
  4. After 48 hours, look at the Google Ads campaigns report and the User acquisition report in Analytics. Start the date range after the link date, because data before it is not backfilled.
  5. If the data is still missing, the fault is in the setup or the tag. Go to the tag and link checks rather than waiting longer.

Once the import shows, check the first days against the date range rule before drawing conclusions from the totals.
