ReferenceBusiness Profile suspension

Location change

Google rejects edits that change the address of a venue business, such as a restaurant, hotel or entertainment venue, because its identity is tied to the place. If the business has moved, mark the old profile permanently closed and create a new one at the new address. If it has not moved and the address is wrong, contact Google instead of submitting the same edit again.

At a glance

Where it shows
When the address edit is submitted on the profile.
What stops
The address edit does not save, so the old address stays on the profile.
How serious
A rejected edit rather than a suspension. The page covers it for venue types.

What it means

Google's page says edits are rejected for businesses whose physical identity ties to the customer experience, and it names dining, lodging and entertainment venues. For those, a move is not an edit. It is a different listing at a different place.

The rejection is about the profile's address, not its content. The fix is a move or a correction, and the two routes are different.

What actually triggers it

  1. A business that moved and kept the old profile

The business has left its premises and tries to change the address on the old profile. Google's page says to close that profile and create a new one at the new address.

  2. A wrong address that was never the business's place

An address typed incorrectly when the profile was made, with the business still at the same place. Google's page says to contact Google for this case.

Fix it in this order

  1. Decide whether the business has moved or the address was entered wrong.
  2. If it has moved, mark the existing profile as permanently closed.
  3. Create a new Business Profile at the new address.
  4. If it has not moved, use the contact link in Google's policy overview, rather than submitting the same edit again.

Often confused with

  • Identity change

A rejected edit to the business name or category that changes what the business is. When a different business now occupies the location, Google says to mark the old profile permanently closed rather than rename it. A location change is about the address.
