Fix a suspended Google Ads account
Updated October 11, 2026
1 to 2 hours, plus Google's review
To fix a suspended Google Ads account, read the reason in the suspension email or the banner, fix that cause in this account and every related one, then click Contact Us in the banner and send one thorough, honest appeal. Do not open a second account to keep ads running: Google may suspend that one too.
Before you start
- Admin access to the account. Google says only admins can clear a payment check that pauses an account.
- The suspension email. Google says it names every policy the account was suspended for and links to the appeal.
- A list of every Google Ads account tied to the business, with the sign-in email, payment method and manager account each one uses.
- Business documents to hand, in case Google asks you to verify first.
Confirm it is a suspension and read the reason
A payment pause and a strike hold look like a suspension but clear in other ways, so rule them out first.
- Sign in to Google Ads and read the notification across the top of the screen. In the suspension email, write down each reason it names.
- If the notice asks you to confirm your payment method or make a payment, Google says the account is paused, not suspended. Click Admin, open Policy, click Account, and click Start task on the payment task.
- If the notice mentions a strike, it is a temporary hold. Fix every violation and submit the acknowledgement form, and ads resume 3 or 7 days after the hold began; until you do one or the other, the hold stays. A successful appeal of the strike releases it at once.
- If you see users or charges you do not recognize, Google may have suspended the account to block unauthorized charges. Report it with the form on Google's account suspensions overview page.
Each suspension reason has its own fix and appeal tips, so work from the reason Google names.
Fix the cause before you appeal
Appeal only once the cause is fixed here and in every related account: Google asks that all linked, previously linked and related accounts comply before an appeal.
- Do not open a new account to keep ads running, and tell anyone who manages your ads not to. Google lists creating new accounts after a suspension to get back into Google Ads as circumventing its systems, and says accounts sharing an email, a payment method or a manager account with a suspended one may be suspended too.
- If the account owes a balance, find the declined or unpaid charge on the Billing Summary or Transactions page and pay it. If Google asks you to verify the payment method, click Complete Payment Verification in the right-hand panel.
- For a policy reason, change the ads, landing pages and site content the email points to, in every account on your list. Remove what breaks the policy rather than rewording around it.
- If Google asks for advertiser verification, complete it under Admin, Policy, Account before you appeal.
- Write down what caused the problem, what you changed and when. That record becomes the appeal.
Send one appeal and wait for the answer
Send one appeal for each suspended account and then wait, because Google may not process extra appeals for the same suspension.
- In the suspended account, click Contact Us in the notification at the top of the screen. The appeal form opens on the right.
- Explain who runs the account, why any other accounts exist, what went wrong and what changed. Google asks for thorough, accurate and honest appeals, and reinstates accounts only in compelling circumstances, such as a mistake.
- If several accounts are suspended, send a separate appeal from each. Submit the form and keep a copy.
Google says that when it sees the appeals function misused, it stops processing certain appeals for 7 days, so wait for the decision before sending more.
Check it worked
Click Contact Us again. While Google reviews the appeal, the account shows Appeal pending, and the decision arrives by email.
If the account is reinstated, watch the Impr. column under Campaigns over the next few days. If the appeal is rejected, Google lets you appeal again the same way. Save that for when you have something new to show: Google gives at least 6 months from the suspension date to appeal.
What can you still do inside a suspended account?
Google says a suspended account is read-only with a few exceptions: you can open every page, download reports, update security settings, make a payment, add a payment method, appeal, verify, or cancel the account and claim a refund if it qualifies.
Google also says advertisers may lose access to a suspended account after an extended period, so download the reports you want to keep now.
