Exclude IP addresses in Google Ads

Updated October 11, 2026

10 minutes

To exclude IP addresses in Google Ads for the whole account, click Admin, then Account settings, open IP exclusions, enter the addresses and click Save. That covers Performance Max, which campaign-level IP exclusions cannot reach. Exclude only networks you control, such as your office: a mobile network address can be shared by many strangers.

Before you start

  • Standard or Admin access to the Google Ads account. Google lists those two levels as the ones that can edit campaigns.
  • The public IP address of each network to block, in every version it uses. Google says addresses can appear as IPv4 (four numbers with periods) or IPv6 (eight groups with colons), and that you should enter every version you want excluded.

Find the addresses worth excluding

Exclude a fixed network you know, such as your own office, not a person you suspect.

  1. On a computer connected to the office network, look up its public IP address, for example in your router's admin page or by searching the web for your public IP address. Do it on each network you want excluded, and note both the IPv4 and the IPv6 address if both appear.
  2. For clicks you suspect are deliberate, take the IP addresses from your own website server logs and send them with a click investigation request, which is what Google asks for. Google already filters clicks it judges invalid, including a competitor clicking to raise your spend, and does not charge for invalid clicks it detects before billing.
  3. Leave out any address from a mobile carrier, campus or coffee shop, and check that your office does not share its internet connection with other businesses, as in a shared building or coworking space. Google says networks such as universities, offices, coffee shops and mobile carriers can let hundreds or thousands of devices share one public IP address, so excluding a shared one can also hide your ads from real customers.

Exclude them for the whole account

Account-level IP exclusions apply to every campaign, including Performance Max, Demand Gen, Search, Shopping, Display, Discover and YouTube.

  1. In Google Ads, click the Admin icon, then Account settings.
  2. Go to the IP exclusions section and enter the addresses. To block a range, Google says an asterisk can replace the last 3 digits, as in 203.0.113.*.
  3. Click Save.

Or exclude them from one campaign

Use a campaign-level list only when one campaign needs a block the others do not; Google allows up to 500 addresses per campaign.

  1. Click Campaigns, open the Campaigns drop-down, click Campaigns, then Settings, and select the campaign.
  2. Click Additional settings, expand IP exclusions, enter the addresses and click Save.

Google says campaign-level IP exclusions are not available for Video, Hotel, App, Performance Max or Smart Display campaigns, and that account and campaign lists are merged: an address excluded at either level is blocked for that campaign. Account-level addresses can be edited only in account settings.

Check it worked

Reopen Account settings, or the campaign's Additional settings, and confirm every address is listed in each version you entered.

Do not test it by searching for your ad from the office: once every version of the office address is excluded, your ads should not show to anyone on that network, so a search from there cannot tell you whether the ad is running. Google advises against searching for your own ad anyway, since impressions without clicks can lower your clickthrough rate. Use the Ad Preview and Diagnosis tool, which Google says shows the same results as a search without adding impressions.

If the office changes internet provider or router, look the address up again and update the list.

Will this stop staff seeing the ads on their phones?

Only while their phones are on the excluded office network. On mobile data, a phone uses the carrier's address, which Google says can be shared by hundreds or thousands of devices. Excluding that address would hide your ads from strangers on the same network as well.

Should IP exclusions be used to block a town or region?

Use a location exclusion instead. Google's IP exclusion page says to exclude a geographic location when the aim is to keep ads out of an area. Location exclusions are set in each campaign's Settings, under Locations.
