ReferenceGoogle Ads disapproval

One website per ad group

Google disapproves an ad group whose ads or keywords point to more than one website, and it counts paused ads too. Make every display URL and keyword URL in the group share one domain, move the other site's ads or keywords to a new ad group or campaign, then request a review once the group holds one site.

At a glance

Where it shows
The Status column on the Ads & assets page, as Disapproved, with the policy named in the notification.
What stops
The ads in the affected ad group are disapproved, so they stop serving.
How serious
Low on its own. Google warns at least 7 days before any account suspension.
How long
Edited ads are re-reviewed automatically, typically within 24 to 48 hours.

What it means

An ad group can carry one website. Google quotes the violation as "Using more than one display URL domain in a single ad group", and the page counts paused ads and keyword URLs as well as live ones.

Allowed means every ad and keyword URL in the group points to the same domain. The page's example of a violation is two display URLs on different sites in one group.

What actually triggers it

  1. A paused ad left in the group

Paused ads count. An old paused ad that points to another domain can disapprove the group while every live ad is correct.

  2. A keyword URL on another domain

Keyword URLs count as well as display URLs. A keyword with a URL on another domain breaks the rule even when every ad points to the right site.

  3. A second site's ad added to an existing group

Adding a second site's ad to a group that already advertises the first site, without a new group, is the violation the rule describes.

Fix it in this order

  1. Open Campaigns, then Ads, and check the display URL of every ad in the ad group, paused ones included.
  2. Check the keyword URLs in the same ad group.
  3. Edit the URLs so they all share one domain. Hover over an ad, select Edit, make the change and select Save.
  4. Move the ads or keywords for the other site into a new ad group or campaign, or remove the ones you do not want.
  5. Request a review once the ad group contains only active and paused ads on the same domain.

When to appeal

Appeal from the account if you believe the decision is an error.

If you cannot or do not want to fix the violation, remove the ad to help prevent future suspensions for repeated violations.

Often confused with

  • Destination mismatch

One ad's URL does not match its destination. That is a link problem inside a single ad, fixed at the ad. This rule is about two sites in one ad group, and it is fixed by moving ads or keywords.

  • Destination not working

A URL the crawler cannot load. This rule is about which domain the URLs use, not whether they load.
