How much content do I actually need to rank locally?
For a single service business in a single city, you can rank with as few as 10 well-built pages. For multi-service or multi-city businesses, plan on 30 to 100 pages over the first 12 months. Google rewards depth, not just volume.
The minimum viable footprint
Homepage, About, Contact, one page per primary service, one page per primary city, plus 5 to 10 FAQ or guide pages. That is enough to compete in most secondary markets like Mesa, Tempe, Boulder, or Fort Collins if the content is genuinely useful.
In primary markets like Phoenix and Denver you need more, usually 30 to 60 pages, because competitors are doing the same. Skip the page count and you will be invisible to anyone outside your existing referral network.
How to scale without spamming Google
Programmatic city and service pages are fine when each page has unique data, photos, and answers. They are spam when they are 800 word boilerplate with a city name swapped in. Google can tell. So can your customers.
Build one strong template, then write unique local context for each page. Reviews from that city, jobs you have done there, neighborhoods you serve. That is the difference between ranking and being ignored.
